Mindful to Mind-FULL (I'm overfilled, how about you?) - Part 2

Seasonal, All-ways Timely: As of two days ago, you and I were re-MIND-ed we have "Mindfulness" ready at our disposal, ranging from full blown meditative states to the simplest of yoga poses. Very useful as we find ourselves filled to the gills, both our minds and bodies overfilled. Our minds in particular full of lists -- things we feel obligated to do, gifts to buy, recipes to download and try, cards to send...on and on it goes...cross stuff off the list...a time of year I hear with more frequency "Stick to the list!". So, no wonder we hear various dramatic statements made on behalf of ourselves, us elves, starting in about mid-November and proceeding at a mind-blowing pace into the new year: "I'm overstuffed...I've had my fill...I've had it up to here, from ear to ear...I can't think straight, I've got so much on my mind...My head's about to explode...I think I'm losing it, my mind (remember, from an earlier post, that's not what's really happening here, as much as your great mind is losing to your emotions, which are likely overflowing recently). So many others, all proclaiming a simple truth of this season in particular, perennial favorites, but just as apropos in mid-summer. That of Mind-FULL-ness, of course. What and how we fill our minds with. With what means, how we try to clear them. Our mindsets.

"Give them a piece, peace..." Of mind, that is. In the first case, which we can all relate to, having been at both ends of "I'm gonna' give 'em a piece of my mind!" Hopefully, before you do and/or are on the receiving end, you piece together a bit of Mindfulness (see 11/27), before giving away a piece of something precious you may not get back. Peace of Mind, on the other hand, "I'm gonna' try set their minds at ease...", what we all aspire to, such as that represented in "The Serenity Prayer" often repeated, quoted, partially practiced, a state of Mind we all try to place ourselves in, especially in times of duress, otherwise intense stress. Kind of like of state of grace. When you combine these, you've pretty much arrived at "Peace of Mind"...hang onto it if/when you get there.

"Fill 'er up!" Your mind, that is. The foregoing quote, one which is likely foreign to those under 50, is what we (well, actually our folks) used to say when the gas station (now referred to more as a combo convenience, petro, dispensary...) attendant approached the driver's side of the car, at which time the driver would signal how much gas to put in the tank (usually after seeing what was in their wallet, before the advent of cross trained credit cards), as well as what grade of fuel to fill our thirsty vehicle. Regardless of your own station in life, you should see the relevance to filling our thirsty/hungry minds, brains. So, what do you fill yours with? I'm gonna' let you digest this, let your minds settle, until I fill them with some additional thoughts of my own, that reside in my own, that I look forward to sharing..."...what's on my mind..." Peace, out...for now.
