Getting in the Last Word(s): Signing Off, Grate(fully!)
Wiki and Friends: A confession, that I have relied on many sources throughout the (almost) past two years, including many of you and, of course Wikipedia, which I turn to this one last time, for this blog, at least, as a source for both a good operational definition for what "getting in the last word" sounds and looks like, as a suitable follow-up to "choice words, word choices" and just shortly after covering many dimensions of "defining moments", which I hope you found even a fraction of personal meaning as it was meaningful for me to write. And finally, also a fitting way for me to sign off this blog, which has covered just one month and one day short of two years (commencing 5-5-20) and included (this being 370) posts, which exceeded what I initially anticipated by a long shot. There were admittedly many times where I thought I was running out of relevant material and that you out there may start finding me, myself, a bit irreverent, I mean irrelevant. But then sparked by conversations I had with many of you, plus those I overheard, sparked new ideas and associations with earlier experiences. Then there was also intermittent reinforcement (powerful behavior mod. device to sustain a behavior pattern once it has commenced) of more-than-expected numbers of "daily readers" found in my "Stats" (which also counted my posts, etc. so I did not have to bother myself)...To quote Wiki, one last time here...
As far as the last Word(s) go: As in "...you win the debate...shows your moral superiority...should convince your opponent you are correct...should certainly impress, your fellow Wikipedians... and just in case there are any doubters, as in...
Lingering Doubts: "...particularly important when/if you are in some doubt as to the merits of your case...serve as convincing argument that will make up for any deficiencies in your logic..."
It's all Yours: As in, according to the "Free Dictionary" (another source I've used occasionally, as in at least once per week here), "...the final part, words, in an argument or discussion, especially one that decisively or convincingly ends it." So, it's all yours, my friends and/or readers...
Speaking of Signing Off: (Misc. sources, from "Merrian to Google")...lots of options for me to do so, perhaps one last 'mash-up' (as I have been wont to do here): "...announce the end of a communication, especially a broadcast...stop talking, be silent...express or approve formally or convincingly..." Sounds to me like a good combo for "defining this moment"...
Ending, like the Beginning: With a bit of advice/guidance from "Blog Spot", folks I have not yet met but to whom I owe a word of "THANKS!" And THANK YOU for your readership, for this space and time together here. While the "viral vicissitudes" are still upon us and according to many scientists, some forms of which (the original virus that sparked all this) "...may continue to be among us going forward...maybe indefinitely...our way of life impacted, depending on how we as a society respond to it..." We anticipate that those in the position to do so, ("WHO, you ask?") will finally declare this particular pandemic to be "over", after millions throughout the world have already decided so for themselves, as far as discontinuing "shut-downs", "social distancing", and the rest of the previously unforeseen circumstances, even those that the 1918 Pandemic offered a glimpse of. Most of the world is gradually, gratefully, returning to state of semi-normalcy. While others, families who have members who remain "at risk" find themselves continuing the strongest learned "pandemic protocols" for at least the foreseeable future. In the meantime, until we meet again, perhaps on another blog, the title of which does not occur to me...
To Family and Friends: (and other readers, and those who have brought this to you from "Blog Spot") -- once I discovered "blogging" as a way to convey my thoughts, experiences to all of you efficiently (for free!), once my blog was set up by my technical guru son (Thanks again Chris, you're the best!), I also received strong support and otherwise patience from my family as I queried them on different subjects (little did they know, Thank you my dear Family) and then took the time out from time-to-time, to post every few days, along with explicit ("comments") and implicit (numbers of readers per day) encouragement from all of YOU!. Collectively, these strong sources have sustained both my writing of this blog and my longer term outlook.
"Thank You; may you all be blessed as you have been a blessing. I will remain grateful."
Great topic, what "getting in the last word" sounds and looks like, is thank you for sharing you blog for perusal and approval. I remain grateful and blessed for the message you send.
