Re:Staging a Debate: Behind the scenes, prior to, before and after..."The Great Frame-Up"
Backdrop: Or, in other words "setting the scene", stage (literally): often deserving, warranting, garnering lots of attention, in developing a story, a play....debate...soon to be forgotten. Under-rated, appreciated? It's a matter of debate...But here, in this post, from this host, I thought it worthy of our collective, communal (as in "a village") attention, prior to moving on to the actual debate, prior to the framing of the actual argument...to build an appreciation for all those who brought, organized, argued about the what, how, and even when the debate would be presented on "prime time", when the most would likely tune in...each of these deserving of our attention, all of which are necessary but not sufficient (see 10/6) in organizing and when, after an incredible, unseen, amount of time and effort, is put into something, especially when "they counted us out" (as in the polls), and particularly when time (e.g., deadlines, when the movie is due to come out, great anticipation, especially if the producers hint of...) and circumstances are against us...those that may discourage viewership, ratings...the signs and indicators that such "organizers" take into account, "analytics" (of, for example, who, when, how many viewers are likely to tune in, and from what current, "up to the minute", perspective) could easily eventuate in the following out-takes, take-aways, great getaways even...
"We've seen this all before..." As in 'false promises'...falsified, at least amplified credentials, political resumes, false claims against the rival, rebuttals ("I am not a liar!")..."fact checkers"...followed by yet another set, re-newed claims, requests...(closer to home, "millage re-newels")..."There you go again..."...
"We should've seen this coming..." A landslide victory in the other direction...a tsunami! The insidious, crafty way of crafting, presenting a new tax law which hails "no new taxes" after which we, at re-election, perhaps at mid-terms yell "hail no!"...more locally, closer to home: deteriorating schools, inside out, requiring re-novation, even an over-haul...
"We actually pulled it off" As in a major victory, an "upset!" ...a debate sans free-for-all, the results of which could, if the contestant isn't well-prepared, result in a "free fall"...a contrast to those who are held up as representing a "tradition of excellence", who have managed to capture the elusive "X" factors that account for not only a good season, but sustained (educational) "programs"...
"A Distant Memory" Collectively, in unison, dis-harmony, candidate caption, candid, commentary on what those posing as worthy of our listenership, even our votes, the promises...what they intend...we may as well, ourselves, look to ourselves, in ourselves, harken back to yet another quotation, the culmi-nation of incredible advanced planning (which failed to take into account the placement of a/c which resulted in one "sweating over details" right before our eyes), the first "nationally televised", which we in this country deemed worthy of an Inaugural event...
"Ask Not What You..." A universal appeal for sacrifice for the common good, at the same time affirming what's good in all of U.S....sometimes taken out of context, as another famous, well-worn (out?) quote most of us as children and eventually as parents overheard, then evoked to provoke thought on behalf of those from generations way back, those yet to come...
"Ask not, want not..."๐๐ preceded by or followed, lecture style, "not under debate"...In turn...
The final re-butt-all: "I've seen enough of this; let's order take-out" (Click)
The coming debate: "It does not (just) take a millage: A tale of two city" (schools)
