Drop and Ad; Bored, with Ed. (?) - Part 2...
And "Just in the nick of time" That is, just before I was "getting bored to death"...drooling on my desk (see "Ferris...") And when you/I may be getting "fed up to here, hear") with the "crappy" (see Paul Simon, 1973, "Kodachrome" and for context, here yesterday) courses, the course these politicians, both nationally and locally (i.e., "Board of Education") have set for us, once they were elected, after the "dog and pony" shows in their political ad campaigns, that have been incessant the past several weeks, assaulting, insulting our "Sense and Sensibility"...leading up to, for most of US, even the ones that have selected to not be "present" (see "Bueller...Bueller...Bueller...") at the appointed time, elected instead via "absentee" In any case, form, we finally get a choice, assuming we, as "responsible citizens" exercise our constitutional right, to "Get out the Vote"...Yes, finally, after "all is said and done" we get the chance to choose...
Gen Ed to Something "Special" Which, in political terms, we have heard as "Think global, vote local" and in bored, with ed (?) we experienced as, after going through the routine of the regular school day, the core courses selected for all of us, we actually got to attend a "special" (e.g., art, PE, music, library, and now includes techie stuff), adding at least a modicum of variety to an other-wise ho-hum day which may allow for a loosening of our joints in our other-wise rigor-mortis school day. Going from the "gen-ed" or now termed "common core" curriculum selected for us by our boards of ed. -- now more likely by state level ed. folks, given how schools, over decades, have gradually transitioned from those which were more locally controlled, and paid for, to more centralized, at the state level boards of education, reflected in part by "core curriculum" and by "school funding formulas" -- taxes! always a highly contentious, core issue at election time...
"We, the people" A highly endorsed theme, meme, yearlong but especially at election time, to remind us of our rights as well as responsibilities as citizens...as well as those of us who are actually the consumers of education, the students, current, past (e.g., parents, taxpayers), and prospective, future gens of learners... We, who managed to matriculate, graduate...we all, together, started out with courses that were selected for us by our parents in concert with local school boards who presumably got together on our behalf, decided what was "best for us"...and we gradually...if we stuck it out long enough...achieving at least "passing" grades...passed through the dreaded "Gen. Ed." requirements, satisfied the resented "Pre-requisites" other-wise know to us as "pre-wrecks" at the college level, and finally, were presented via course catalogues with "elective" courses, the ones more likely to hold our interest, and those hopefully more "meaningful" to our vocational aspirations. A selection of courses that, even after attending class a few days, experiencing the professor, scrutinizing the syllabus, could actually, if too much time had not elapsed (or course was not deemed "full"), we could modify via "drop and add". Which, if we around here bother to tune in the day after (approximately 48 hours from now), will be reflected as dropped ads...None too soon...just as I was about ready to "drop out", just...
"In the Nick of time" As in "Time Change", or, a clever prompt, to help those of us who might confuse one with another..."fall back, spring forward" And others of us, who might prefer "Time for a change"...as in changing our outdoor decor to something less scary, simply "click" to change the color on our "smart" lights, which will make us the envy of our neighbors and be yet another reason to "polar"-ize our neighborhoods, as to whether we should stay with tradition or turn things over, give someone else a chance, after we feel mis-LED. And, of course, almost a seamless, quiet turnover in ads, dropping those of a political nature, negativity ("About damn time!") to those featuring a fellow resembling Father Time, but turns out, is Nick himself, jolly old...
"Nothing new here": Just comes earlier each (election) year...Happy holidays and many happy (election) returns of the day...after tomorrow..."Out with the old; in with the new"; drop an Ad.
