Re: En-counters: woes, throes...
"Whoa, be gone!" - Coming to a theatre really close to you - a trailer.
Re-enclosed encounters: You've heard, perhaps, no matter gen you are now part of, of which itself you had little say in (fore-shadowing, but not a spoiler), a HUGE turning point in the film, life cycle of a director who is now back in the spotlight, now a household name for all generations, Steven Spielberg. Largely responsible for the 1977 film "Close Encounters of the Third Kind" which depicted what happens to an "everyday blue-collar worker" (nice midwestern boy, an "everyday Joe" in my world, but actually given the name "Roy" in the movie, Richard Dreyfuss for real) encounters the unexpected, unwelcoming phenomenon...sets him on his heels, his whole life reeling and, in the end...well, I'm not going to play the spoiler here for recent gens and youngsters who may have not yet encountered it, taken the time to stick around for the credits, to see all the cast and crew (remember sitting in the theatre and actually doing this?). And years later, he came to us again, with some additional phenom, this time entering our own bedrooms, through the TV -- "They're back!" Who invited them, anyway?! ("Poltergeist" written, dreamed up by guess who?) We can all relate to this, especially after hosting or having to attend, out of obligation only, to see those once-a-year, "loved ones" the ones you just as soon...well, you know...And here I am to engage, encounter you with some thoughts and feelings you just as soon banish, like those words I featured here a few days ago, the ones that were struck from our vocabs right about when the clock was about to strike midnight on 12-31-22. Maybe I'll entertain a vote later this year about topics you would like a "return to sender" category but in the meantime, on your behalf (you'll have to stick around for the whole show, come back after the intermission to see how this actually works for you) ...presenting some emotional states and words to convey them, we don't often encounter but are certainly, from time-to-time, part of our experience...namely...
Woe-fully, Throe-some: As in "I'm so woefully tired of all this, having to deal with these quarrelsome relatives...I feel just like I did the other night when the coach bungled some key calls and cost US the game...in the throes of defeat...it's like they sometimes say in sports, and occasionally off the field...he grabbed defeat from the JAWS of victory...๐ก๐๐!!!" What a bite, but not quite as acute as that dramatized in the 1975 thriller, another pairing of Steven Spielberg and Richard Dreyfuss. Yet another unwelcome visitor, uninvited, that spoiled a lot of folks' otherwise serene scene. And here I come as well, with some unwelcome thoughts, feelings, that could, if unmitigated, "spoil all the fun" so early in this "brand spanking new year" (see 1/1/23) -- all of this happening in your own locale, even in the comfort of your own home, as in the "Theatre of your minds"...
End of trailer.
