"Time Out" after May Merri-went, for Mental Health break...
Just in the Nick...As in "Where did the time, May, Merri-went?" I'm sure you can relate, given how event-full this month has been, including having taken time out to honor nurses earlier in the month, and fallen heroes, most recently. But did you know that this whole month has also been set aside in an attempt to increase awareness regarding your mental health? In other words, in addition to a whole lot of other worthwhile causes to honor, celebrate, we are reminded of the importance of looking after your mental health, one dimension of your overall well-being...to at least be aware. This being the 75th year since Clifford Beers (3 cheers!) of Mental Health America founded it, which was in turn an acknowledgment of how many soldiers came back home with strong mental health needs, but has since become a call to tend to not only look after our own, but be aware of others in need...
Were you aware? That I've been looking after your mental health, oft referred simply as your "well-being" for about 48 years and counting (just under half a C., which sounds more impressive, if bothered to ask me), and I'm here today to point out some simple, as in "one, two, three" steps you can take that, now that you are now aware (thanks to me, right?) that are virtually guaranteed (notice the underline for extra emphasis) to add value not only to your mental health, but your overall well-being. Step 1 (gotta' start somewhere, sometime, so "May" as well be here and now): After being well informed, fully aware (after reading this, so excuse #1 "gone"!)...that there is an inverse relationship between the amount of time actually spent socializing and that spent on what's collectively referred to as "social media" -- the way it affects your...affect. Translated: "Click off the mouse, get out of the house, and go interact with real people...May take some time, but you'll find some of yours..." Speaking of being a "busy body"...
Step 2: (if you want to do out of sequence, that's fine with me) A re-Minder of one of the oldest idioms pertaining to both mind and body..."A body and mind in motion..." Apply with regularity for best results...instead of being "I'm sick and tired of..." try "Fun and games!" They're readily available, as are potential players, both of which you can probably find just sitting around...speaking of...
Step 3: For most of us literally, just a step or two away, whereas more figuratively..."Get out-doors!" Fresh air is a better pick-me-up than all those pixels we've been seeing behind closed doors, while out strolling the neighborhood...
May: The fourth, fifth, 31st be with you, on into June, July, August...along with your mental health, well-being. As for me, I'll be back with you in just a bit, to spell out some further lessons from b-ball biz...other words of wiz-dum...
