Where do we go, from here?
Putting "It" another way..."How can I get there in the most efficient, direct route as possible...?" Universally experienced (i.e., "relatable") whether you are a road tripper, trying to minimize your encounter with orange barrel brigades or, in the present context of covering all things b-ball, trying to get to the "facilities" after having to hold "It". This special set of circumstances that come about when the game has gone longer than expected, and have you wishing you had...gone...one more time before leaving home, or at the last "intermission". Instead of waiting until the game has gone into what, in some venues, called, simply "overtime", whereas others resort to more dramatic language to keep fans in the stadium -- "sudden death!" Whereas in the more pedestrian pastime prose..."extra innings" as in "more if the same"...True, butt...
From where I sit: Another universal experience whether more literally or literately, which together, if used often enough, in sufficient venues, become either colloquial or part of our pop culture on this whole pastime of ours...Literally experienced in the ball park, polarizing polls, I mean poles. As a natural extension of when someone is seated, for example, along either what's called the "first" or "third" baseline, gives one a very different line of sight. One which is aided by some lines of direction that have been laid down on your behalf by the grounds crew, well before your arrival. Lines which extend well beyond the bases themselves, that can become even imaginary if the "fly ball" has a trajectory that also takes it clear over the "end of the line" (literally) -- represented by an actual post, which now tend to be accompanied by a metal mesh on the "fair" side -- aiding the umpire in determining, sometimes only after viewing through yet another lens...which could eventuate in a simple circle motion with the index finger (easily confounded with our more common reference to "Whoopi do!"). In the case the ball was (whether is stayed in the ball park or not) deemed "foul" the player is called back, for what's essentially a "do-over". Whereas for the fans who, especially those who unknowingly bought from what used to be called a "scalper" but now more universally (un)recognized as an "Unauthorized Ticket Speculator"...can eventuate in an obstructed view😡. Whereas...
In my own view: A more transient one, which covers not only where the "best seats in the house" are located, butt this whole fan-based experience when the game ends...in a tie. Which, as I just implied can be transient, as in temporary, or become recorded, in the record books, more permanent. Sometimes simply designated as such by a "T" (makes sense, eh?) whereas others actually afford you 1 (as in "one" not "won") and others more fractional...But experientially, for the fan base, especially the more loyal followers -- "Homies!" it also, once again depends on what direction you are viewing this from. As in what historical perspective -- the perennial loser being more inclined to seeing this outcome as a "moral victory!" whereas the reigning champs, who were expected to repeat..."It's like kissing your sister...😕" So, it appears that your experience regarding what has taken place and what's to come, comes partly from your place...
Stands and Standings: Whether, for example, you're in one of those luxury suites where you can ride out the extra innings in style, with plenty of pro-visions being brought even before asking. As compared to that of the "bleacher bums" who are likely already experiencing sore...bums. Likely a different take on sitting for "who knows" more "at bats", relief pitchers, and all the rest "they'll be parading before us, just to get us to stick around and buy the last, stale hot dog (oh, just figured out the origin of the term "stalemate"😝)". Sitting? Who does that anymore? The trend seems to be that, despite paying for this particular seat, which likely cost more than last year without any noticeable up-grades, that less time is being spent there...and I'm not just talking about the so-called "Seventh inning stretch". Giving rise to the traditional cheer..."Down in front buddy, you're obstructing my view!"
Come again: Depending on the accompanying tone, could be a sincere attempt to get someone to repeat what was already uttered, or a bit sarcastic, in the context of, in close association with "seriously?!" In the context of ties, after the ??? extra innings are finally played out and a winner is determined, you come to find out that now that this protracted game that your 24 hour anti-perspirant also had to go into overtime to cover, is only one in a series...NOW that the series is also "even up" you are now encouraged to make a return visit for what's frequently titled...
"The Rubber Game" Which I'll bring out onto the field after you have a chance to freshen up, after sweating through this..."Gonna' ask for my money back, look at these sweat marks...so much for 24 hour relief!"
