"Say Hey" it isn't so...

Catch phrase: One that on this particular day, has triple play meaning, as in a call, shout out to at least one, if not the GOAT of b-ball, and a strong association with his nick-name, which continues to be, in b-ball, many legends of questionable origin, and finally, a lament, on behalf of all of us, whether b-ball fans or not, on the passing of the one and only, Willie Mays...the man with the...

Golden Glove: He had a dozen of them, presumably scattered around his household, among so many trophies and accolades that he quickly and almost continuously accumulated...it's rumored that many were only created after his play in center field in particular -- his patented "over-the-shoulder" catch in the 1954, created such a stir, as to warrant such awards...

That is, while referring to one ("a tool" that is), these daze is considered at least a bit derisive, as in expressing contempt, ridicule -- the type now reserved for one who is, among other things..."useless...inept" -- the true meaning back in the earlier game of b-ball could not be farther (kind of like "you're out in...") as in..."someone who had all the tools of the trade...(aka "basic skills")...batting for average, as well as power, baserunning speed, throwing, and fielding..."

"So there!" Not quite a perfect comeback to "Say hey!" but best I could come up with under such quick notice and circumstances that brings me to say that whether you are one of the few left who knew him as "Buck", "Cap" (short for "Captain", another earned moniker), grew to appreciate him through the highlight  "film" (as it was known back then) or simply grew to have affection of the many ways he stood out, otherwise stood up proudly, for the "Game"...

"Plain and Simply" The Best, what the game is all about. Our hats off to you, Willie Amazin' Mays.
