Olympic Opera-tional Daffy-nitions, hyphen-nations - Couture, culture in and around Paris
It goes with(out) saying: As the old saying goes, "When you're in Paris...what happens in Paris..." As for me, I can do without..."
Is nothing sacred? An old question about the same age as the foregoing state-meants. Apparently not, when it comes to the international runway for the content creators, whose 'tableau' which was a only slightly veiled "drag queen" version of the "Last Supper" may be their last, as in "off the table". After making headlines, the kind of cultural faux pax ("femme fatale" comes to mind, given the duo-lingo), wandering into an area they found was still a bit too taboo, for some non -Parisians, the so-called "uncultured" among US: "Drag Queens shine at the Olympics but draw criticism..." Which gives rise to...
Commercial content-meant: What many discontented, along with all the dis-gruntled among US, unhappy with either the cultural content these daze, or the coverage (or what's not, in some cases...leaving nothing to the imagination...) only tune in when Alexa alerts them the commercials are finally...."back ON"! (TG๐). Which, given the international exposure (still a double standard when it comes to (un)covering males/females...if you see what I mean...) takes a whole lot of what's, in Parisian terms, referred to as "cachet" (which the French, of course, take credit for, as the origin of "cache" -- the current word so many of us outside of Paris probably mispronounce, which they take great pride in reminding US...๐๐ )...
Sponsor-ships: "What, how much does it take..." To get my name on a dinghy, given that to get anything bigger takes more than a treasure chest "trove"... the from Anglo-French tresor trove' for the unwashed among US...
Fan-Fair: What used to mean, refer to on such a grande (the Parisians, of course, prefer "grandeur") occasion, "a short, lively, and triumphant musical introduction..." Has been replaced with what all of US fans still long, hope for...as in even the slightest concern about what we, the viewing audience and what is other-wise includes the "paying public" - US "ordinary customers who paid admission..." (unlike the favored few whose parents gave such a large largesse (the origin of which is, of course, attributed to...) to such cultural institutions that grow IVY on the walls...to get their cherubs admitted...
Pay-triotic: It used to be that just to represent the country from which they originate was more than enough, and even at a younger age, their parents agree to "pay to play" (a trend that became necessary to off-set costs) while they were still purely amateurs...it has pro-gressed to "what's in it for me, what's this medal worth...?" That is, "Pay me, to play...go fund ME..." This trend, along with...
Flag Wavering: It used to be, what seems like just yesterday, it was another sign of being "proud to be..." which was frequently accompanied by flag in (at least one) hand...An earlier trend which has been 'flagging' as of late...
"Don't drink the water" Or, for that matter, in the present context, don't go into the drink, as in "Seine filled" . You just have to believe that Jerry (as in "Seinfeld") and Company would have an Olympian field day ๐คฃ A laughing matter, unless you are a prepped participant...one that came to be tri-umphant but now relegated to a bye-athlete...
Clean-up: A rally nice, choreographed, if i say so myself, tie-in with the game that also featured an all-star line-up a few days prior...this time bringing back a light/heavy hitter, in the form, voice of one who, while hailing from Canada, apparently was chosen in part due to her incredibly melodic voice, that soothed those out on the life-boats many years prior, but calls her home that part that attempted in 1995 to become independent (as in secede, as in still aligned in their hearts, with France) -- Namely -- Celine Marie Claudette Dion - who gave us an ear-full while we, US, were simultaneously treated to an eye-ffel๐๐. What a finale!
