"How did we wind up...?" B-ball and all...
Fair, foul Q & A: As in fielding questions, left and right...about how, why, if you are a so-called "seasoned professional" and you studied the game film, made the right moves, did a final pre-game prep regarding the type, timing of signal calling you and your partner agreed on, in order to catch them...getting the vibe yet?
Off, on field conditions: As what anyone, no matter how often they practice, simulate, go to, what's known as PGA tour card holders, those who play to par, and all the rest of us 'duffers' (no wonder they call it "handicapping") refer to the "driving range" -- a place where, before letting us loose on the actual course, as in driving (see the connections yet?), the ability to stay on course ("fair....way" get it????)...just not quite the same...no matter how well you teed up, teeing off, getting the thing to fly straight...
"It's your delivery" Both on, and off, the course, or course...as in how you, as in the key, sum total of all the prep, finally manage to make solid contact...the so-called pinnacle podium moment (so that's how they, the manufacturers of all those "Pinnacle products..."), as in "address" the ball, I mean audience...
Stretching: Not just with truth telling, but in the game of b-ball, what we see as viewers (you'll look more closely, perhaps appreciate what are called the nuisances, I mean nuances, of the game) learn to tolerate, I mean appreciate as "aficionados" -- as what occurs in between pitches, prior to what in golf, "ho-hm" -- after all those practice swings, wiggling and "waggling" (best word I could come up with what Jack does in between, slowing down a slow game, to a virtual halt, can't bring myself to watch...) before, in any sport and venue, we finally get teed off...turned off. It's also about...
Positioning: It depends on whether you are a pitcher, catcher, or even "batter up" -- as in where, how you stand (crouch, ouch!, in the case of the one who is frequently, in tandem with the manager, the "signal caller"...catcher, weak kneed, as it turns out, after thousands of reps...). But even in just the case of those who become specialists at pitching ("starters...mid-inning...relievers....closers...") or hitters ("lead-off...down the order...bottoming out...pinchers"), and depending in the game of golf, as to how the course is laid out in front of you (as in "dog legged...")...you might vary, upon closer camera angles (you'll be a better student of the game now), make what are called by the know-it-all analysts..."the slightest of adjustments..." (political pundits call this "knowing your audience") whether you are about to go into what's known in b-ball as "the stretch" or even a full "wind-up..." The batter, catcher, even "ump", all adjust what's called "accordingly..." As in the correct "stance" (on the issues, am I getting through to you....?)
Getting a grip: As in on, around, or even 'seamless' -- depending on what pitch is called for, in any given situation, and the one that is residing at home plate...a lefty or righty...which influences how what are now termed "influencers" set up their audience for the big pitch...
The wind up: Which involves a particular practiced motion, idiosyncratic versions of which become your signature on the mound...and differs a bit than when, if the situation calls for it, as in runners on base, let alone "scoring position" -- go into a stretch (comes almost naturally to practiced politicos)...
Delivery: Thanks to Amazon and a few other "up and coming" competitors, what we have gotten used to, now expect, in the form of what's called in b-ball a "heater!" -- one which comes at you in the form of a "four seamer" -- aptly named as when appropriately thrown there are, upon slow-mo analysis, four seams rotating, but to the amateurs among us, seemingly just WIZ! by, the arrival, grand reveal! announced by the SMACK! -- of the catcher's glove, in my case😞...
"Back at You!" In the context of the current usage, the physics and other dynamics of a game that otherwise seems to proceed like another enjoyed summer setting -- the so-called "lazy river" (the top 16 of which now ranked by "Time Out" ⚾)...an experience that is an increasingly popular among analysts of the game, as in "exit velocity" after the "WHACK!" of the bat signals good contact, which in turn signals the pitcher to "DUCK!" or otherwise stick up your glove hand...Otherwise, as a complimentary gesture, in the present context, a subtle tip of the hat...
Relievers: A group that hang around the "bull" pen that warm up when the starter is running out of gas, but tomorrow night, what millions will be relying on after hearing so much ("BULL!")...in attempt to prevent gas, bloating, belching... Prediction: There's likely to be a " home...run" on them...getting it yet?"
