UNprecedent press re-lease...
They finally got it right: "We tend to use the word unprecedented a little too often, too casually, to the point it loses its intended impact on the target audience..."
Well said. Clear, precise, without any advice. Just what, how, who, when...allowing us, the listeners, readers, come to our own conclusion, as opposed to being bled, led to it..."if it bleeds, it leads..."
De-pressed yet? "You must, just feel..."
"Hold your tongue" Depending on where and when you hear this, are directed to do so, it could be part of a procedure to explore your oral cavity, which could, if you don't show the ability to do so on your own, be assisted by a "depressor". Whereas in the context of using some self-control in the form of discerning when to refrain from "saying things that might upset people" comes more via suppressed speech...
"Unspeakable..." Or, in other words, "when words just don't suffice..." And on those occasions where the interviewee are struggling to come up with some..."I know, how you must have felt...don't worry, I'll take it from here..."
"Poor me" As in having empathy for those trying to get those, "under such dire circumstances..." to open up, admit it's an absolute catastrophe..."Chief, it can be like pulling teeth..." Editor-in-Chief to what used to be called in the trade, "cub reporter" - "Keep pressing them...use the foot-in-the-door trick we taught you prior to your first crisis call...why do you think we issued you steel toed shoes...?" Just another day-in-the-life tongue lashing, feeling sorry for me yet?
Tongue in cheek: What I imagine occurs in the dentist office, on occasion, when discovering the root cause of the all the tongue wagging, that comes naturally to the one in the chair getting an actual tooth extraction..."I see from your file you're a press agent, news manufacturer...don't worry, we've got extra tongue depressors out to make sure you don't bite down on yours..."
Un-press-a-dented: What I heard this AM on FM, from one pressing reporter to one, apparently a bit oppressed, by "...hurricane winds, with water that's sure to follow...we only evacuated the nonessential employees, after which we heard something here in the press room heretofore unheard of...the creaking of the floor boards...expansion and contraction of walls...at least we could still get the office itself to speak up" Never a dull moment...for these dedicated reporters it's always...
Press time somewhere...
