An Ad to Add - Service for You, Too
Officially, on my post: An addendum, as even though I posted here on Veteran's Day, what I thought was a strong statement on behalf of all those men and women in uniform that are out there serving us, near (as in National Guard in locales declared "national disaster zones") and far (now to include "Space Force"), one which finished with issuing a word or two of appreciation. In response, what do I get?
"Thanks, but no thanks" as in "no thanks are really needed here..." This out of the mouth of one who not only matriculated from the Naval Academy ("in order to save my folks tuition") but then rose to the rank, as in that of another major...accomplishment in graduating from MIT, after which he went, in naval language "below decks" as in commanding a nuclear sub, finally resurfacing, to redeploy his skills, help other young men and women getting firmly grounded, back to Annapolis, MD.
Recruit the Recruiters: It was well into the Vet special, featuring awe inspiring stories of sacrifice, many of which would not have been told if the reporters had not prompted, pulled it out of them...humble bunch that they are...that this naval/MIT college recruiter skipped right over Uncle Sam and went right to the source..."Parents, instead of thanking us for our service, why don't you consider encouraging military service to your daughter or son...it will help to defer the cost of college education, give them a strong foundation no matter what career path they might follow, and besides, aren't we, as in US, all better off, stronger, when we join ranks?"
"True Enough" My new words of affirmation, on their behalf, when a simple “Thank You” does not suffice.
