Servers and Selfies, The Serve US Industry: Tipped off, Tapped out.

"Can I, May, I, might I be..."? The whole gamut, range of options, opportunities to be of service, as well as ways to be served, many of which are found in what's still considered the "public sector" which, in my hometown alone, include "streets, sidewalks, storm/sanitary/sewage systems, water distribution and quality,.." all the way down to "certificate of occupancy certifiers" (the latter and many others being absorbed by the city, county clerks, who do lots of good...deeds). But also places, given the gradual replacement with non-human forms -- the "AI Guy" may result in...

Self-Serve, the tipping, tapping points: What better place to test this out, than the "tap room" itself? While in the midst of a rise in food/beverage prices, and an appreciable increase in expectancies of showing appreciation, in the form of tipping, could be greatly reduced, if not completely e-liminated, by such self-service...ATM's being one of the earlier versions that eliminated, at least muted, our voices, in expressing "thanks" to the teller who now resides outside our car, and inside a thick bullet proof window, followed or accompanied by (hard to tell which preceded which in this parade) all the "drive-through" fast food chains...which for your increasing convenience, features a corresponding decrease in the presence of the human element (guess it's partly why it's called a food chain)...

Bar backs, tenders: That would normally help things flow, in what are fondly called, by beer connoisseurs, "tap rooms" which have traditionally relied on the services of one who tends to the bar, as one who assists the tender, the former of which mixes and makes, the latter stacks and stocks...great, efficient partnership in maintaining flow and customer satisfaction…both of whose jobs could be in jeopardy, sub-sumed, by those who are now seen installing "Self-Service" drink stations...

Feeling Insecure? A decorated soldier and citizen among U.S. offered the following words on this subject (at least they appeared in my "Calendar of Quotes") - "There is no security in this world, only opportunity". He should know, having served as an Army major in Vietnam, after which he rose to the rank of general, then chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. Also known as an American statesman, he went on to serve as the United States Secretary of State. I don't know about your own job security, but I know for sure that as long as men and women such as Colin Luther Powell who, despite having been refused service in bars and other establishments due to skin color, have answered the call to duty, those who proudly wear the uniform of the branches of our armed services, we have uniformly enjoyed a big measure of security. It's our turn to tip our hats to all those we hail as our Veterans...

"Thank You for Your Service, sir, ma'am" Usually suffices, to make them feel appreciated, right at home.
