Groundhog's Day 2021: Wuhan Wanda

Seems like yesterday, yesteryear: Things have sure changed around here as well as in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania since a year ago, just a month or so before COVID-19 became part of our vocabulary. Now, we hear about it every day, like each day is like the day before, rinse and repeat, like "Groundhog's day all over again". This post is to honor GH day but will be a slight revision, so as to at least create the illusion of variety. It will be short in content but long on meaning (casting a long shadow?)...

Re-envisioned: Since just about everything else has changed throughout the last year, why should this 'holiday', traditionally marking a demarcation of sorts, with all its poop (I mean pomp) and circumstance, be any different? It calls for a recasting, and for this unique GH day I think it calls for someone who is more salty and acerbic and thus, I choose none other than...Roseann Barr! Well, who else?! In your blog you can choose your own but come on, think of how appropriate she would be--in the 1993 comedy starring Bill Murray (portraying weatherman Phil Connors) he finds himself in a time loop, waking each day to find out it's February 2nd all over again. If you've seen Ms. Barr in any role, she sounds and acts as if she woke up on the wrong side of the bed any given day--perfect for our times! The plot would also deviate slightly, having the character (OK, you get to choose the critter) come out to see if she can see her shadow, in which case it means six more weeks of six more feet (sorta repetitive in the true spirit of GH day). The good news of shadow casting is she heard a rumor put out from a former president that certain UV rays would help mitigate the virus. On the other hand, if she can't see a shadow that means six more weeks of staying at home. Wait, that sounds like a similar result, the same plot as if she saw her shadow. But wait again, as she has an epiphany: "well, at least I can stop wearing this damn mask!". But wait once more, as she just overheard the new president...

You get to write the ending, to join in the fun. Cast your own version, your own shadow.

Happy Groundhog's Day, 2021!
