Paying, Playing Tribute: "not a big deal" to THEM, but sure is for US. Veterans Day, 2021
To THEM, for/from US: THEM, hundreds of thousands, now millions and counting. VETERANS. THOSE that have served in one branch or another of the United States Military, on OUR behalf, to preserve OUR liberties, OUR way of life around here, as well as elsewhere on the globe. Most of THEM, upon given accolades, in the form of motorcades or medals, respond with statements reflecting humility, honor, such as "It's just what others would do as well given the same circumstances (speaking for myself, I'm not sure)...an honor to serve...the call of duty..." As WE in this nation and around the world ("Remembrance Day" in the UK, for example) pay tribute, play tributes in some traditional tones, ranging from somber to more celebratory, we should all, in one way or another show our gratitude, and we can only hope that THEY (both present and past) accept our expressions of appreciation, for THEIR service, sacrifices made on behalf of US, most of whom THEY never met or knew would follow...
From Tattoos to tattoos to TAPS: as in a majestic military display combining music and presentation of 'arms', one of the most iconic being the Edinburgh Military Tattoo, that brings together audiences from across the globe, celebrating the skills and talents of military bands and displays by the Armed Forces. Or, as in an inked display one's body (mostly on arms) many times incorporating the insignia of the military branch in which one served, and perhaps some musical notes as well. And usually, regardless of the branch of service, any service of remembrance and/or commemoration ends with the playing of "Taps".
Whether through splendor or simplicity, may we all hope that THEY will accept OUR gratitude which might be best reflected by a chorus of THEIR parents when told, "Your son, daughter is about to deploy" respond, "I could not be more scared; I could not be more proud" As for the rest of US, perhaps divided by opinions throughout the year, united in appreciation this day when we humbly offer,
"THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE"
Veterans Day, 2021.
