"Game(s) Over!" Meming, Streaming, Screaming...a look back at Bejing.
Fore-casted: Right here, more than once, as in "A Slow Boat" and many other iterations, spoiler alerts, harbingers of what was lurking in the shadows, the slippery slope, lurking beneath the surface of the (fake) snow and ice...not so nice, as it turns out, so many memes, I've lost count, certainly more than the medals our Winter XXIV Olympians are bringing back home, to US: XXIV "Plus One" as of this minute...but who knows, given what we witnessed, experienced vicariously on behalf of so many athletes who toiled for years, just to have their moment spoiled...Our athletes may have taken a slow boat in, but certainly going to high tail it out of there, before more shenanigans find them medal-less...
Unceremoniously, Deserving to Unnerving: On behalf of those, especially a few figure skaters who did everything except fail a drug test, performed in such a way to be judged medal worthy, but never got the chance to receive it in the traditional ceremony, due to a committee, as in ROC to be more precise...a Committee that didn't always act like it was grateful, lucky to be in Bejing, after being sanctioned for "unsportsmanlike" conduct, big time...
Recused, Refused, Re-used: "So, you think you deserve a medal?" A question often posed to those who have yet to do something Olympian in nature, but act like they deserve adulation. In baseball terms, often stated as "Born on third base and acted like they hit a home run". Here in Bejing, something just short of this, an ROC hockey player deferring from having the silver medal placed ceremoniously around his neck ("I'm a gold or nothing kind of guy"), staring at it as if it was re-used. And, of course, the drama involving a few figure skaters (from guess where?) also caught pouting, after all the shouting, indicating their intent to refuse participating in a medal ceremony, due to their perception of mis-judging (what would figure skating do without such claims?)...This, while one youthful skater captured much of the world's attention, whose youth became part of the issue, who thought for sure she herself would be issued a treasure trove of medals, instead earned the scorn of her coaches and the press at home. Unwanted attention and likely a long detention. Which has US all up in arms on her behalf, making us want to rise up out of our chairs in unison and give a final...
Olympic Shout Out: "Free Kamila!" Well, it worked for Britney, didn't it?
