Using The Force, Completing the Mission
Message Central, Central Messages: The messages that are central to the mission, the one of keeping our children safe, in the presence of ever evolving technology that exposes them to so much we have yet to prepare them for. As well as the methods, places, devices on which we place these messages. As they, themselves, are messengers in motion, creating commotion, emotion. Challenging enough for parents to keep up with one another, let alone their children. But left to their own devices...
The Final Question: The one that follows the ones I posed to you yesterday here, and the one that President Zelensky left the UK MP's to ponder, one taken form William Shakespear ("To be or not to be...?") that he coupled with some strongest words ever intoned in the face of aggression (from Sir Winston Churchill, worth a look and listen)..."We will fight in the forests....". Back at home, around our homes, on behalf of our children who are not themselves soliciting our help (quite the opposite in the case of tech), "Who if not us will protect them as the next tech emerges, the next generation, iteration of smart phones, devices, challenging the status quo in our homes, just as we were getting settled?"
Better or Worse, in the Meta-Verse (PG): The technology we thought was light years away, as when we heard Buzz Lightyear invited us to come along to "Infinity and Beyond!" Here we are, already crossed the thresholds of our homes. Sure sounds nice in concept, theory. But, once again, in the absence of supervisions, lacking "Parental Guidance" (a rating that never went out of style if you ask me), it has the potential to wreak havoc with the well-being of our children. Which returns us, reminds us that we are once again coming up on...
The Eleventh Hour: Whether AM or PM, EST or DST, when it comes to monitoring your child's PC, when it approaches "lights out" time...after you have tucked them in or otherwise told them "if you're the last one up..." (in other words, "I'm going to bed, fend for yourself...") As you are now in the twilight, on the threshold of sleep...when "not a creature was stirring, quiet and peaceful all through the house...wait, did I just hear the click of a mouse?! Sound the alarms, back to the mission!" No end in sight...
Post Mission note: Turns out He (our professor, see March 5th) was a sage after all, when he told us "What the world, at least parents need, is a better mouse trap..." Well, something like that; close enough. And, as one radio psychologist mentioned in the context of parenting teens, even prior to the explosion of high tech, "I have some advice for parents whose children are about to become teens....get a lot of rest; stay energized! Because if you do it right, keep up with them, you're going to need as much or more energy than when they were infants". True enough, in order to stay true to the Mission.
