Re:Maining, in the shadows ("Cluing U in")
"Person(s), place, or thing?" You ask. Sort of an update on "What's My Line?" as in another guessing game-show, that via a successive sequence of guesses, that collectively should, at least, build on one another, to successfully zone in (clue) on the question of the moment...one WE as kids frequently began with, "Is it bigger than a bread box?" Which, while we were acting innocently, actually made us guilty of being a "copy-cat!" ππ’ as it became sort of a signature line of the panelist, humorist, Steve Allen, his opening salvo, on "WML?" Which, as far as I know, was not copy-righted, which gave us the OK to go ahead, versus, those who ex-CLAIMED...
"An EX-clusive!" When you hear this word, these days, you may be tempted to tune US out, as in "WE, alone, have the exclusive rights"...or, in the very least account...the "first on the scene..." Which, WE, at home, have become a bit cynical about, needing lots more to be impressed, keep US tuned in...Which I, as in ME, your host for this post, the continuing series of "What's my (bottom) line"? as part of a "Super Duper" build-up, trying my best, through the written word, sustain the suspense, at my own expense (clue) -- as in time, effort, trying to bring you a bit of relief throughout this "trying period" (clue). I mean, after all, following the last call (clue), after all is said and done (clue), I mean, who could really blame you, me, for...wanting to...
I/WE Re-main Blame, Name-less (clue): "The names have been changed to protect the innocent" A throw-back (clue) quote that, for US in my Gen, tends to resonate with the opening lines from "Dragnet" which starred "Sgt. Friday" (Jack Webb, in reality) and "Officer Bill Gannon" (aka Harry Morgan to US). The words which set our minds at ease, to re-assure US that those that actually might be to blame, shame, would not be revealed, at least until the very end...as in "credits" (clue) -- which, the first time I heard them, prompted me to ask my dad, sitting next to me, "why, if they are truly innocent, do they need a name change...? To which he, in his wisdom, and best attempt to quell, dis-pel not only my confusion but further interruptions, "Well, let's just listen, follow along and perhaps we'll get some clues..." To be followed, as we came to expect, somewhere down the line (clues, as in "in between...outside..." which will clue U in more next post, in case U haven't guessed) with the cautionary mind-setting..."Just the facts, ma'am..." (which lately, as in "briefings" has been anything but). While attributed to Sgt. Friday, as his own signature line, while turning out to be a bit of a miss-quotation...(I, myself have gotten quite used to this, in my line of work...), at least catches the "spirit of the law"...A quote, more recently in the form of an admonition, response from the press, to the so-called "Press Secretary" which, based on what has happened, all the head-fakes and miss-directions (clues) might be re-named, under the guise of "protecting the innocent" - Press, Secret-nary...ππ‘ And, who could blame, shame U for guessing either the so-called "classified" or otherwise, now, "not-so-secret" Docs...or those that found them, the "FBI" folks who, upon being questioned themselves are wont to respond, as "Maverick" (known to us, simply as "Tom") did, so deftly, blithely, when being queried by Kelly McGillis (whoops, I mean "Charlie") after the rumor of their air-space encounter with a Mig-28..."It's classified...I could tell you but then I'd have to..."
Suspense Killing U? Well, don't re-main clue-less, come on back, for yet another epi-sode -- there's still plenty of time left (clue).
BTW: While in and around the White House, the attempts to un-cover the true nature of the Docs have been questioned again and again...our parents, for whatever reasons, the true nature of which remain shrouded in mystery, began their inquiry, into the so-called "cookie jar" capers with "before you answer, before you even think of blaming your sister or the dog..."ππππ Affective-ly Ex-clusively, Brilliant!
