Breaks with Tradition: from bumming around, to cheering up.
Over-time: A term that buys us fans a little extra time to get worked up...into a frenzy! as in one last ditch effort...one last chance for our team...to blow it! Well, we're kind of conditioned, like rats chasing the cheese, in a maize...just to have it grabbed up as we make a final drive๐๐ข But in this case, it's more a state of mind, as in consciousness...raising. As in how my own mind worked overtime, trying to find a way to bring you back, cheer you up, after I left y'all on "SAD" (see 1/21 for full experience...)
What a bummer! As in "I'm so bummed out (showing my age?) -- I had high hopes, after all those off season moves the management made..." that once again promised to bring us a product that would at least have more entertainment value, if not one additional "W". The full experience of which I had with my grandad, as in the root word..."Get those bums off the field, the whole lot of them...!" A condition that may have emboldened the perennial protesters seated behind us, as in "Old Grand-dads" (or whatever was in that flask they tried to pass off to the usher as a handwarmer) ๐...
Cat callers: For those that wanted to widen, personalize their chronic complaints..."So much for a roar of a lion...more like a meow!" Now, you can continue to exercise your rights, even though they are on an unprecedented winning streak, by lodging complaints for "Jacking up the ticket prices!" As well as continuing to yell at those in front of you who end up, due to standing up to cheer...the whole game, obstructing your view..."If I wanted obstructed view seats I'd go back to Tiger Stadium or Joe Louis Arena...sit down and cheer up, would ya?!"
Fond far-wellers: While we as faithful fans got used to (does one ever?) the PA announcer, after the last loss, the final buzzer, inviting us to "enjoy the off season, thanks for your patronage, come back (suckers!)...for yet another..." A sudden turn of events, as if a replacement announcer had accompanied all these new players..."You are welcome to stick around and enjoy the post-game celebration" How odd can you get?! A contrast almost as sharp as, on the one hand, giving our players icy stares, glares, as they shuffle down the tunnel after yet another loss...as opposed to giving them a warm embrace after they (literally) jump into the out-stretched arms of adoring fans after scoring the "go ahead TD" ๐ช๐!!
From up in arms: Where almost the whole team was seen jumping, into the Home end zone, into the creature comfort of their very own (Lions, for those of you unacquainted) den, jumped into -- very cozy as it was already a bit 'crowded'...but always room for more on such occasions. After the after-party was "exhausted!" (said our coach in the postgame conference)...a type of end zone ending that would have been uncon-vincing to one named Vince -- "no party" Lombardi that is, who would be out there scolding us, as if we'd never found the end zone before...well, not for a long while...
"Farewell to Arms": A sort of Heming-way of acknowledging that sooner or later we have to leave the friendly confines...and "head west young man..." in search of the same golden opportunities that a gazillion minors rushed there and later, minors in search of a different type of 'rush'...Some of which put down some grass roots...
"Far out, man!" The response UR likely to get when asking our young men in uniform, regardless of the outcome of the game..."So, how was your trip...?"
Now comes...Your fare share, of owner-ship. (i.e., "own up to it!")
