Trait-offs of Tolerance: An open and shut case...

What's being (un)called for: A curious, if not confusing state of affairs, these daze, regarding the state and this trait that social and other engineer types, refer to as "tolerance" -- more or less, depending on the setting and set of circumstances...On the one hand it's the thing the world can't get enough of...Whereas once you walk through the doors, of the classroom, and back out again, into the school yard, of the public schools, at least, the ones that are governed by a "body"...they're not having it...at all...nada, zip, zilch..."ZERO Tolerance!" A bit of a double standard you say? Having trouble tolerating the ambiguity of it all...? It's easy, once you assume some perspective, as to whether one wants IN, or OUT...

Doors, swings, bidirectionally: It's a matter of elementary physics and where you stand. Simply stated, clearly delineated for you...as on the door itself  -- only two choices -- either "push" or "pull" (same as when you are trying to get someone to get you going on the swings). We all will, if we haven't already been there, found ourselves on the outside looking in or looking forlornly out-side, can't wait, counting down the minutes to whatever awaits you at whatever the current recess! you are seeking...you'll just have to tolerate the...wait...as well as the confusion of what's being called for here...or there...But in most cases...

It's not weather: More a matter of degrees. Such as when the body in charge decides it's sufficient in-clement conditions, to stay in...or push us out...for a minimum of...But in the context of social climate it's become a bit of a miss-nomer, non-starter...Whereas we apparently grew up with a sliding scale (at least they tolerated finger pointing and such, so I guess that adds up to 50-75% tolerance?) now, in these days of 0-T what you see and hear is...nothing at all...which adds up to "Absolute Zero"! Which is the lowest value in the thermodynamic temperature scale and about as low as one can go with this whole state of tolerance...

Measure-meants: Depending on the trait or state and associated circumstances, they will call for different units, scales, and measuring sticks -- such as the case of how you'd measure tolerance in the cafeteria or line-ups on the playground, what better than a yard...stick? Going in the opposite direction, where tolerance is more of an exacting science (also known as engineering, as in the mechanical type), it may call for a micrometer, so that things might line up tight, so that your door closes nice and snug -- we're talking minimal tolerance here...

Sealing the deal:  As in here comes all the seal-ants (some of which were construed by the chemy type of engineers out there), along with weather...stripping that, while well intended, like the issue of so-called tolerance, could easily become a paradoxical state of affairs...where sealing up our houses and schools, to keep them airtight, save on energy costs, could also if taken too far, end up with all of us being exposed to stagnant air, feeling a bit stifled...Speaking of...

At a bare minimum: While we, all the super-visors of air quality and what, how much we'll tolerate in the form of conflict, perhaps we ought to return to a time of giving them some room to move, back off a few more paces (yards?) and let the kids on the playground learn to solve some of their own problems, work it out themselves, like they've been doing for hundreds of years...at least as far back as 1954, such as in "Lord of the Flies" Talk about a classic case of (in)tolerance...
