Debts, Collectors: all is forgiven.
Two weeks on: No fooling! That is, two weeks to the day, that many of us, caught off guard, claimed we would never be fooled again. Similar to when, in the past we heard an aspiring leader (as in on running for office) make the claim "Read my lips -- no new taxes" Well, that's what he said, as we heard it loud and clear but it's apparently not what was on his mind. Forgive me for not be a mind reader. In any case, in one well-crafted paragraph, I'm here to remind you that, if you haven't "rendered unto Caesar" his so-called "due" you have until midnight tonight to at least file a form that, based on the bottom line, will tell you whether you owe his uncle Sam or vice versa. The details to be worked out (debated) at another date, such as the one they allow you, if you file what's called an "extension". Which, depending on who you are, what tax bracket you find your-self in, after taking all the deductions you (dare) to take, or otherwise in "unforeseen" circumstances that prompted you to sign the bottom line, or have someone else assist you (AKA pleading with parents or even a "GREAT!" uncle to be a "co-signer"), when the debt finally comes due, finding you hoping you're among those whose debts have been wiped out, cancelled, with one signature. Talk about extending a spirit of charity -- "Thank you so much!" But wait, you say, it doesn't quite add up, based on the basic math you learned. As well as the most basic laws of physical science ("Physics" for those in the know)...There's just no limits to what these math wizards and master architects can accomplish, especially when working towards a common goal..."raise the debt ceiling..." Speaking of extensions...such as the time it will take to even pay the interest on the debt. Which, along with the so-called "stimulus" packages which have been passed by members sharing the same House, one member of which has been trying his best ("Uncle Bernie") to create better working conditions (i.e., shorter work week) which is a good thing, given that many of U.S. will be working two or three of them in order to pay our "fair share". If you're confused, otherwise bewildered by these seemingly contradictory set of circumstances, you are to be forgiven.
"Don't look now" But it looks like the charity known as the IRS has replaced "Tax (filing) Day" with national "Debt Forgiveness Day" ...
"Gotcha!!!" As Mark Twain is oft quoted..."It's many times easier to fool someone than to convince one they've been fooled..." Not exactly his words but I think it's pretty close to what he meant...Then there's that saying that "the only two things that are certain in life are debts and taxes" Yeah, I know...I'm no-body's fool; I know that's not really how the saying goes, but they (Ben Franklin among them) would certainly agree with me, if they had lived to see this new reality -- I mean, it's unreal...
Now, back to less taxing matters, the "base, balls" series.
