The Planet Earth - Movers and Shakers, Land End Users
End-visioning: Where one visionary simply gazes out at the field and streams, another comes along and sees it as "Yields beyond your dreams" (enough crops to feed...given just the right amounts of sun and rain). Yet another, as in "Walt goes West" sees it as a place "Where dreams come true" He envisioned it, they built it, and here we still come. Well, the proverbial dust on the day set aside as Earth Day, had hardly settled and these three groups were all back, kicking up dust, throwing dirt at each other...Can't we all get along...isn't there, at least at this juncture, 48 hours after we all united to save the planet, enough room for all three.?! Well, at least two...
Joni meets Ray: "When Harry Meets Sally" -- a film partly addressing the question "Can't men and women just be friends?" was such an earth-shaker that the Library of Congress sought to preserve it as "culturally, historically, aesthetically significant" here and now I offer you another seemingly odd couple who, if they ever found themselves in the same zip code, under the right conditions, would also yield a big hitter. That is, if Joni Mitchell's Big Yellow Taxi could only hold enough of us and hold up until it arrived in Dubuque County, within which we find the City of Dyersville and, if you direct the cabbie correctly, finally arrive at Kinsella's farm. Where Mr. Ray of sunshine himself, was inspired to perspire, earn the scorn of some of his fellow farmers (which grew to pure envy), came up with (as in it came to him in a dream) the idea of putting a field right smack dab in the middle...of a field. While he listened and obeyed the whisper in his ear (more like a thought he could not get out of his head, sound familiar?), what he could not anticipate, did not plan for, in this scheme, which became a great meme "If you build it..." which was the instigation behind such a plan that not only brought out some of the most color-full base ballers, but also, once the idea went viral, brought hordes of onlookers...to Iowa, of all places. What he failed to hear, plan for, even after Terrance Mann (in the unmistakable voice of Darth Vader, I mean James Earl Jones) asserts..."Oh, they'll surely come Ray..." Which was depicted by an endless stream of headlights, heading his way. A situation, which we can all relate to around here, this week, as the ones hosting the NFL draft..."where are they going to park, all those cars?" Which is, of course, where one of my favorite folk, singers comes back on the set..."they paved paradise, put up a parking lot..."
Diamond in the rough: What I, at least, end-vision, when two with such star power, but seemingly different aims, can meet in the middle. Just e-magine...
