"I'm just sayin'..."

Sayings: Some of which have been around as long as b-ball games have been played, a few of which designed to be watered down versions of more harsh, terse, otherwise poor taste, at least according to the current trends, trends of the times and context, of course. As I was just saying (5/20 post), the so-called "rubber game" is experienced and characterized in part by the historical context of the team...party...whatever...with which you are most closely aligned...Which could have resulted in you either developing a thick skin or become ULTRA-sensitive...For example, in the current context, "If you're thinking of staging a comeback, you're gonna' need a bigger stage..." could easily be misconstrued as what's now deemed "trash talk" -- none of which is this well nuanced...And/or "Your team would probably mess up a tailor-made double play, even if Taylor played it for you..." Baseball and sports in general are full of this stuff, which still makes it loads of fun, if you are quick with the pun...or otherwise too terse, with the curse --especially if you bump, the ump -- send you to the showers...talk about watered down...

Normal-eyes: Yet another attempt, with this tough customer, to nuance, make a suggestion, that might be in the best interests of all present..."I'm just sayin'...there's more to this (strike zone) than meets your eyes...perhaps you might want to try those progressive lenses...you can two in a pack at your local Costco...if you're not a member I'll put in a good word for you..." It's as if he had a gag reflex, thought I was taking exception..."To the showers you go..." Well, that's what his pointing finger accompanied a stiff arm seem to say...

No good deed goes unpunished: Doesn't anyone appreciate a good joke anymore...geez. Exactly, as in things about this game that start with G...next in the rotation, or batting order, if you'd rather put it that way...kind of goes without sayin'..sometimes better left unsaid, depending on your audience..."grumpy umpy..."
