A Tariffying  state, of affairs - An Under-whelming send-off

"Let the Exercises Commence" Always was a strange message, as very few present were standing ("please be seated") ...let alone "in awe" after the forgettable commencement message was so-called "delivered". This, despite having an "honorary doctorate" bestowed upon the speaker prior to being the "special delivery, don't shoot me, I'm only the messenger, standout alum". Yep, that's a heaping helping of honors, after listing all the individual's achievements, prior to them even stepping up, to the podium (or lectern depending...). A preview what's likely to come out of their mouth, regarding the state of affairs, current economic/climate conditions "or lack thereof" that the commencing collective are about to step into. Preceded or inevitably followed by a b-r-i-e-f reminder where they came from. All summed up nicely, in whatever one word the speaker asked them "if there's anything you take away from this prestigious institution, and this last-ing lec-ture...

"Honorificabilitudinitas" Looking down, on the aspirants, who are in turn, looking up, on their phones..."Don't bother, looking it up, please keep your attention fixed, on me..." It is a power-full combination, from medieval Latin (one more tucked in before sending them away, after hearing from the pretentious "guest lecturer" in this lingo) word which should, "when you call upon in in the future..." the "state of being able to achieve honors" Followed, usually, by the speaker, a brief reminder of how little they have achieved,  in the way of "real life" experiences after living in utopia. And what better author to show my superior literary and otherwise worldly sense of humor, than the one whose works is usually called upon, when the speaker wants to show up, the audience...."of course, if you have done your homework, it comes from Shakespeare's Love's Labour's Lost...speaking of..."

Finale! (heard by the those few attention, the speaker has not yet lost) "Finally, they are getting to the message..." So, you've heard about all these terrifying tariffs which, in case you missed class, too busy with your own affairs, is simply a way for your guv.org to augment, in order to save for your future security...a tax on goods and services. But what ever happened to good old...Good service...you lazy bunch of do-nothings, who have probably not put in a hard day's work, due to parting all night...speaking of losing the love of labor...! Now that I've finally got your attention...

"Best of Luck" Followed by polite, in this case, muted applause, by the graduating seniors, among which, the only one that got the full impact, message..."dude, that was the most risible address I've ever heard...he was simply appealing to our sense of humor, or don't you understand the word risible...maybe stay in school, forget working..."

"Back to School" A 1986 must watch prior to, or even during a boring commonplace commencement address, from which most in the audience, can't wait to be delivered...

(just glad I could be of service here today, was my main message)
