A French kiss, with a twist...
"Merci beaucoup..." We, in the U.S. as a whole have to dig deep, to express appreciation to the French. Even making apologies when we do..."Excuse my French". But here, in the city that has been nicknamed "Motown...the Motor City..." among others, and even more localized on "Lafayette" where you find at least two Coney islands, in peaceful co-existence, side-by-side, as in one operating under the name of "America" and the other more eponymously "Lafayette". While America as a whole has been celebrating its 250th we around here, the city founded by Antoine de la Mothe Cadillac, in 1701, will be handing out free ice cream on Campus Martius, sponsored by Hudsonville, in celebrating our 325th! This is where the melting pot begins. And so, when you hear "Merci Antoine de la..." (or however you translate “excuse my reach”) please excuse my French, as it's a bit rustic.
Speaking of meltdowns...come back and bear witness next few days, if we're still around.
